this wasn't just someone growing pot in their basement. it was an operation! a business worth millions of dollars. http://www.onmarijuana.com/2007/04/03/the-great-tennessee-marijuana-cave/ too much electricity was used. he tapped into high voltage lines and kept killing a large switch because of his high usage for such a non high use area. they found his illegal splice and got a warrant then busted him. sucks the big one.

100 pounds of ganja in 8 weeks (investigators claim) 52/8 = 6.5 6.5 X 100 = 650 pounds a year. 1 pound = 453.60 grams. 650 X 453.60 = 294840 grams a year at $10 a gram they'd make $2,948,400 a year off of this.

funny thing is the house was empty (other than the cave). when someone went to investigate the power spike he noticed that right away. when he was looking in the window someone came out of the woods with a shotgun and told him to get off of the property. "They found a dead neighbor a few months before the bust. It is thought that one of the escape hatches came out onto his property and the victim encountered one of the pot farmers. A few days after that they found two dead immigrants on outlying properties. It is thought that the pot farmers were tying up loose ends."

this story is actually old (probably by a couple years). no one was charged for those murders. no one will be charged. people who run these big scale drug trades are rich so they do what they want. unfortunately for this guy he ended up with almost 20 years. funny how the house ended up burned down. i didn't look into it, but i'm assuming the original owner had it "dealt with" after the police seized the property and everything on it.
